IGT have recently announced the launch of their new slot, Monty’s Millions. The game developer is global leader in both online and offline casino solutions. Over the last few years they have focused their efforts on getting their online portfolio to stand tall among some of the best developers in the world.

The focus for IGT have been popular casino games such as slots. Although this is their priority, they still put a lot of effort into developing basic casinos, including fixed and table odds based games. They have seen huge amounts of success, which is partly due to their licensing agreements with the likes of Cluedo, Elvis and MegaJackpots.

Monty

This is a Barcrest slot, the games maker which was taken over from IGT in 1998. At that point in time, video slots were fairly new. Innovations such as stacked wilds and animated reels would make games stand out from the crowded rows of games in Vega s and beyond. Monty’s Millions does have a very retro feel to it for me – though as you will see there are some nice touches and solid game play.

The theme is of a rich guy (Monty), with his Rolls Royce, Villa and bars of gold. A 3D image of his face smiles at you from on top of the reels, while the logo expands with every spin. Sounds-wise, this slot is quiet until you spin. There is a brass / bass tune which plays while the reels land. This is fun to start with, though did get annoying after a while for me, especially as it is quite loud compared to the other sounds on this slot.

You’ll find a stacked wild symbol, which can cover entire reels as well as parts of them. This led to the occasional bigger win, which triggers money to fall down in front of the screen. There is also a free spins round. Your line stake gets multiplied for this, which doubles (or better) your wins from it. I appreciated the game asking what nationality / language I wanted before I played too.

This is a 40 line video slot, with 5 reels and 4 rows of symbols. You can choose both the number of lines (as usual stacked wilds always encourage me to play the max) and the stake per line – which ranges from 1c up. There is an auto play button, which lets you choose up to 25 spins.

There are 12 different symbols in total, with the Monty Wild being the one you’d most like to see. This is stacked on the reels, and pays up to 1000x your line bet for all 5. There will normally be other line combinations to pay on top of this too. The mansion and car pay 400x for 5, while the gold and pile of money pay 250x. The playing card symbols make up the rest of the wins. These are smaller, though play an important role in keeping your bankroll ticking over while you wait for the bigger wins.

The special symbol is the safe; this appears only on the middle 3 reels and starts off the free spins bonus round when you get all 3.

The first thing that happens when you trigger the bonus is that a giant animation of Monty appears (complete with purple suit) and walks across the screen. You then go to a different view with a red background, and get awarded your multiplier. This is initially 2x your bet. You start with 5 spins, and can accumulate more as you play, each time you do this you will get another multiplier on top. The maximum is a huge 255 spins, though I would be very happy even to get half of this amount.

Once the round is over you’ll see a total win screen before returning to the main board. There are no unusual behaviours on the reels for this bonus round. Though if you do retrigger the wins could add up very nicely.

I went back to this slot after a gap, and found my irritation level with the spinning music was still high. This is a shame really, as otherwise this is a light-hearted and entertaining game – if a little basic when compared to many of today’s IGT titles. The stacked wilds and potential for a big multiplier on the free spins are reasons to play, though I’ll recommend that you turn the volume down a little on your computer before you take this one for a spin.
